Summer preview

This weekend Summer turned up in Melbourne for an early visit!

We went for a long walk at the Yarra Bend parklands ...

... and came across a beautiful brown-gold and green tiger snake basking in the sun on the path. If you click on this picture to enlarge it, you may be able to see her perfect forked tongue. Tiger snakes are very pretty but also very easy to overlook/inadvertently step on (and they're extremely dangerous - we had to get ourselves and Gus away from this one, lickety-split!).

On Sunday we headed off to Port Melbourne Beach, where gus swam his little heart out for over an hour.

The banksias and tea trees provided a fragrant Spring feast for the local birds and insects, which was a lovely sight to see,

although anyone who grew up in Australia might still harbour a secret fear of the big bad banksia men!

Gorgeous weekend! I was down near Yarra Bend park today, and it's so beautiful there. No snakes about! Brr! Glad you got away from that tiger.
